SUMMARY:The History of Butz Florist EXHIBIT
DESCRIPTION:The Lawrence County Historical Society invites you to “come and smell the flowers” and learn about the fascinating story of the Butz family over the past 152 years. \n\n\n\nThe Lawrence County Historical Society is honoring ‘The History of Butz Florists’ by opening a temporary exhibit in its Joseph A. Clavelli Cultural Heritage Center\, 408 N. Jefferson Street\, New Castle PA. \n\n\n\nThe exhibit is free to the public between March 17th and May 30th. The exhibit will be open for viewing any Tuesday\, Thursday\, or Saturday between 11 am and 4 pm. \n\n\n\nReservations to view the Butz Exhibit are not required. Those wishing to have a full tour of the Clavelli Cultural Heritage Center are strongly encouraged to make reservations prior to the desired tour date. \n\n\n\nFull Clavelli Heritage Center tours will be conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. DESCRIPTION:Come visit the NEW “We Can Do It! WWII” traveling exhibit which explores Western Pennsylvania’s incredible impact on the home\, industrial\, and battle fronts during World War II. Beginning March 30 through May 21 every Tuesday\, Thursday and Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. \n\n\n\nMARCH 30 (begin)APRIL 2\, 4\, 6\,9 11\, 13\, 16\, 20\, 23\, 25\, 27\, 30MAY 2\, 4\, 7\, 9\, 11\, 14\, 16\, 18\, 21 (end) \n\n\n\nThe exhibit will showcase four lifelike museum figures of local WWII heroes: \n\n\n\n\nGeneral George C. Marshall – Uniontown native who served as Army chief of staff from 1939 to 1945\n\n\n\nTuskegee Airman Lt. Carl J. Woods – from Butler\, he was in the first group of African-Americans to serve as bomber and fighter pilots\n\n\n\nIwo Jima hero Sgt. Michael Strank – grew up near Johnstown\, helped raise the American flag during the battle for Iwo Jima\n\n\n\nThe Westinghouse Company-inspired Rosie the Riveter – by Artist J. Howard Miller\n\n\n\n\nExhibit poster showing Rosie the Riveter.\n\n\n\nAs an added benefit\, we will be offering lectures during the exhibit. Visitors to the exhibit will learn about the development of the jeep\, a uniquely American invention produced by the American Bantam Car Company in Butler\, Pennsylvania\, and hear the stories behind Rosie the Riveter and the local Tuskegee Airmen whose contributions helped to turn the tide of the war. \n\n\n\nEntry fee = $5.00 per person (includes access for the entirety of the exhibit’s duration). FREE for children/youth under the age of 18. \n\n\n\nThe “We Can Do It! SUMMARY:Crime Exhibit (repeating exhibit) with Special Lectures
DESCRIPTION:Lawrence County has been home of many notorious crimes\, especially unsolved ones. \n\n\n\nJoin us for our new exhibit “CRIME”\n\n\n\nBegins Aug 22. Repeats on Aug 24\, Aug 26\, Aug 29\, Sept 2 from 11am-4pm. \n\n\n\nWith Special Lectures on August 26 and Sept 2 at 1pm. \n\n\n\nAUGUST 26 Special Lecture @ 1 pm by Intern on the Torso/Swamp Murderers and the Black Hand \n\n\n\nSEPTEMBER 2 Special Lecture @ 1 pm by Intern on Irene Schroeder and the current crime statistics \n\n\n\nTHE EXHIBIT\n\n\n\nThis exhibit\, put together by a group of interns at the society\, focuses on three different groupings of crimes as well as the current crime statistics\, hoping to open discussion on what our community has done and is doing to combat crime. \n\n\n\nTORSO & SWAMP MURDERSThe first focus is on the Torso Murderers and Swamp Murderers\, located in West Pittsburg. The connections of these deaths with Cleveland\, Ohio once stumped famous investigator\, Eliot Ness. Information surrounding these unidentified bodies is now being uncovered and put on display for the public to see. \n\n\n\nBLACK HANDFollowing these murders is the infamous Black Hand\, which surrounded their narrative around the Hillsville community. With the murders of the game warden\, Seeley Houk\, and William Duff\, these murders began to shed light on an mafia-like organization that existed within the county. On display\, will be testimonials of those involved in the Pinkerton Detective Agency-led trials of 1907. \n\n\n\nIRENE SCHROEDERWithin the early part of the 1930s\, times were fluid\, and many lived for the thrill. That was so for the Bonnie and Clyde-like couple of Irene Schroeder and Glenn Dague as they robbed stores within the area and killed police officer Brady Paul. It was not until the two were apprehended in a shootout in Arizona that they were brought back to New Castle and sentenced to death by electrocution\, making Schroeder the first female to be executed in this way in Pennsylvania. \n\n\n\n21st CENTURYUnfortunately\, as we enter into the 21st century\, crime is still evident within our community. Through the work of our District Attorneys and other leaders within our county\, we are now battling evolved forms of crimes. \n\n\n\nGET YOUR TICKETS TODAY!
