Part of her litigation support effort involved overseeing the selection and imaging of millions of pages of documents\, photos and other media\, requiring her to spend extensive periods of time at the National Archives and various National Records Centers across the country. She received numerous awards for her work including the Navy’s second highest Civilian Award\, the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal\, and the US Attorney General’s Award (Ed Meese) for Excellence in Litigation Support. Genealogy research\, history\, and photography are among her many interests. She began volunteering at the Lawrence County Historical Society in July 2010 and has digitized over 50\,000 items in our archives. She recently joined our Board of Directors. \n\n\n\nDr. Susan Urbanek Linville has a PhD in Biology from the University of Dayton and has been doing genealogy research for several decades. SUMMARY:From LCHS to the National Archives
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Henley\, former volunteer at the Lawrence County Historical Society (LCHS)\, returns to tell of his summer internship at the National Archives in Washington DC. \n\n\n\nSee article in the New Castle News https://www.ncnewsonline.com/news/local_news/young-and-old-student-volunteering-at-historical-society/article_1f62f8af-ea67-5372-b1e6-d7bdda0b21f2.html \n\n\n\nHenley will present how his work at LCHS benefitted him in acquiring such a memorable experience. He will discuss the similarities and differences in efforts that both the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and the LCHS have established as well as what those organizations have to offer to the community. This will not only benefit students looking to pursue a career in the history field\, but for teachers and the public to assist others with research and usability of these organizations. \n\n\n\nHenley is currently a Sophomore at Westminster College (PA) majoring in History with a minor in Information Systems. \n\n\n\n\nDoes this sound interesting? SUMMARY:The BentProp Project: search for the MIA of WWII
DESCRIPTION:On April 6\, 2014\, 6:30 PM at the Lawrence County Historical Society Museum\, the King Beaver Archeology Society will be hosting guest speaker Reid Joyce of Valencia\, Pennsylvania. Mr. Joyce will be sharing his experiences as a member of the BentProp Project. \n\n\n\nDuring World War II\, American airmen lost their lives in the western Pacific. The ultimate fate of hundreds of these men remains a mystery today.\n\n\n\nOceans and jungles don’t give up information about long-lost aircraft without a fight. Planes are buried under sand and silt on the ocean floor\, or sink into jungle mud and are covered by years of forest growth. \n\n\n\nThe difficult task of finding lost airmen seems insurmountable\, but the men of the BentProp Project are not deterred. The BentProp Project is a self-funded team of volunteers who are dedicated to locating those missing in action from World War II within the South Pacific Palau Islands. They search the waters and jungles for clues that may lead to lost aircraft. Their goal is to identify wreck sites and remains of men who gave their lives for their county. \n\n\n\nMr. Joyce has been an active SCUBA member on five missions and is credited by “Vanished” author Wil S. Hylton as the Bent Prop team archive wizard. He is a retired research psychologist who did contract research for the Air Force and Navy human-engineering and personnel labs. He developed portable computer systems used for troubleshooting and maintenance on fighter aircraft\, and developed techniques to allow better and safer performance under Nuclear / Biological / Chemical threat conditions. \n\n\n\nPlease join us for this fascinating presentation.\n\n\n\n\nDoes this sound interesting?
