SUMMARY:Book Signing: Meet Ted Toles Jr and Author Michael Swank
DESCRIPTION:Living on Borrowed Time: The Life and Times of Negro League Player Ted Toles Jr\n\n\n\nThe Lawrence County Historical Society\, 408 North Jefferson Street\, New Castle\, is sponsoring a book signing on Saturday\, February 7th from 1pm to 4pm. \n\n\n\nMeet New Castle Indians player Ted Toles\, Jr. and the author of his life story\, Michael T. Swank. \n\n\n\nThe Negro Leagues were made up of thousands of men who enjoyed playing our national pastime just as much as their white counterparts; they were just not allowed to do it on the same stage. This book is an exciting firsthand account of the career of one of those men\, Ted Toles Jr. \n\n\n\nToles’ story begins in New Castle where he played for the New Castle Indians in 1951. From there he traveled to the Sandlots of Ohio and on to Canada\, where he played with some of the biggest names in the history of Sports. This book follows his career which includes multiple Hall of Fame Inductions\, reunions with teammates and the long overdue recognition he deserves. \n\n\n\nAuthor Michael Swank\, is from Painesville\, Ohio where he lives with his wife and their three children. His passion for sports began at an early age\, and evolved into a focus on baseball and the history of the game. Michael is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research\, and has been published in multiple regional magazines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoes this sound interesting? Share with your friends!

SUMMARY:A Controversial Skeleton: Intrigue & Arguments
DESCRIPTION:His was one of the most complete ancient skeletons ever found when it was discovered in 1996. It was also one of the most controversial. \n\n\n\nOver 9\,000 years ago\, a man died near the bank of the Columbia River in Kennewick\, Washington. A stone projectile lodged in his hip. \n\n\n\nThe skeleton triggered a nine-year legal battle between scientists\, the US government and Native American tribes who claimed the Kennewick Man as one of their ancestors. \n\n\n\nThe King Beaver Archaeological Society invites you to this evening of entertainment\, intrigue\, and discovery!\n\n\n\nFormer FBI agent and true crime author Jim Fisher presents the legal arguments and political intrigue surrounding the clash. \n\n\n\nFisher is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School\, a former FBI agent\, Professor Emeritus at Edinboro University and the author of eleven books on crime\, law\, forensic science\, policing\, criminal investigation and writing. \n\n\n\n\nDoes this sound interesting? SUMMARY:The BentProp Project: search for the MIA of WWII
DESCRIPTION:On April 6\, 2014\, 6:30 PM at the Lawrence County Historical Society Museum\, the King Beaver Archeology Society will be hosting guest speaker Reid Joyce of Valencia\, Pennsylvania. Mr. Joyce will be sharing his experiences as a member of the BentProp Project. \n\n\n\nDuring World War II\, American airmen lost their lives in the western Pacific. The ultimate fate of hundreds of these men remains a mystery today.\n\n\n\nOceans and jungles don’t give up information about long-lost aircraft without a fight. Planes are buried under sand and silt on the ocean floor\, or sink into jungle mud and are covered by years of forest growth. \n\n\n\nThe difficult task of finding lost airmen seems insurmountable\, but the men of the BentProp Project are not deterred. The BentProp Project is a self-funded team of volunteers who are dedicated to locating those missing in action from World War II within the South Pacific Palau Islands. They search the waters and jungles for clues that may lead to lost aircraft. Their goal is to identify wreck sites and remains of men who gave their lives for their county. \n\n\n\nMr. Joyce has been an active SCUBA member on five missions and is credited by “Vanished” author Wil S. Hylton as the Bent Prop team archive wizard. He is a retired research psychologist who did contract research for the Air Force and Navy human-engineering and personnel labs. He developed portable computer systems used for troubleshooting and maintenance on fighter aircraft\, and developed techniques to allow better and safer performance under Nuclear / Biological / Chemical threat conditions. \n\n\n\nPlease join us for this fascinating presentation.\n\n\n\n\nDoes this sound interesting?
